Warner Bros. has a genuine contender on its hands this weekend. Walkup crowds for Evil Dead Burn's Thursday previews were strong enough that trackers are now penciling the film in for the biggest opening the franchise has ever had.

What the Previews Are Saying

Industry trackers put Thursday preview business at $2.5 million to $3 million, which lines up with a $22 million to $27 million weekend. Not everyone agrees on the preview number, though — one tracker has it closer to $2.3 million, a shade under what Evil Dead Rise did in previews back in 2023 ($2.5 million). The Hollywood Reporter's weekend coverage, meanwhile, folded Burn into the broader frame without giving it a standalone preview figure.

Wider Tracking Context

It's worth noting the range has moved. Boxoffice Pro's long-range forecast as recently as July 10 had Evil Dead Burn tracking for a $30 million–$40 million debut — which would have topped the franchise outright and put it ahead of comps like Alien: Romulus ($42M opening, 2024) and Weapons ($43.5M, 2025). The $22 million–$27 million figure now circulating represents a pulled-back estimate as actual preview data has come in, though even the lower end would still be enough to set a new franchise opening-weekend record, surpassing both the 2013 reboot's $25.8 million debut and Evil Dead Rise's $24.5 million start.

Evil Dead Burn opens alongside Disney's Moana live-action remake, which brought in $4.5 million from its own Thursday previews and is tracking toward a $60 million–$65 million start. The two films share the frame with holdovers Minions & Monsters and Toy Story 5, ahead of The Odyssey's IMAX-dominating debut the following weekend.

Directed by Sébastien Vaniček (Infested) and produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, Evil Dead Burn stars Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, and Hunter Doohan. The film arrives amid a strong 2026 for original and franchise horror alike, following breakout runs from Backrooms and Obsession earlier this year.
