'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Pre-Sales Are So Strong, $250 Million Now Looks Like the Floor

Three weeks ago, tracking for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" pointed to a solid but unspectacular $180-190 million domestic opening. That's already changed twice since, and each revision has gone in the same direction: up.

From Solid to Staggering

According to industry tracker Global Box Office, the film's domestic pre-sales have already climbed to nearly $50 million — a pace strong enough that analysts are now treating $250 million as a floor rather than a ceiling for opening weekend. Box Office Pro has updated its own model accordingly, moving its range up to $230-250 million, putting "Brand New Day" within real striking distance of "Spider-Man: No Way Home's" franchise record of $260.1 million from 2021.

For context, "No Way Home" had accumulated roughly $78 million in pre-sales before its December 2021 opening — and "Brand New Day" is tracking alongside that benchmark, if not slightly ahead of it at the same point in its own countdown. A $250 million debut would also make it just the seventh MCU film ever to cross that threshold, joining "The Avengers," "Infinity War," "Endgame," "Black Panther," "No Way Home," and "Deadpool & Wolverine."

The IMAX Wrinkle

What makes the surge notable is what's missing from it. "Brand New Day" won't have access to domestic IMAX screens for its first two weeks, since those auditoriums remain committed to Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" through August 14. Sony is instead leaning on other premium large-format screens, with some reports suggesting the film could set records on formats that historically haven't carried this kind of weight for a Marvel release. Generating this level of demand without IMAX in the mix says something about how much pent-up appetite there is for Tom Holland's Peter Parker specifically.

A Big Weekend Globally, Too

The international numbers are moving in the same direction. Current projections put the worldwide opening weekend around $550 million, which would rank among the largest global superhero debuts ever recorded, according to FictionHorizon. "Brand New Day" is also missing IMAX screens in China for its first two weeks, though it has reportedly secured that exclusivity once that window closes.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" swings into theaters July 31, with Peter Parker facing off against the Hulk and, potentially, Jean Grey, with the Punisher joining the fight.
